Kozyra & Hartz, LLC is pleased to announce Michael J. Rankin is now a partner in the law firm.

“Mike joined the law firm in 2013 and has expanded his practice areas to include both a wide variety of civil litigation (motor vehicle personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, toxic torts, medical and nursing home malpractice, estate, commercial and business, employment, landlord-tenant, real estate, land use and insurance coverage) as well as transactional services involving estate planning and administration, commercial and residential real estate transactions, and general business and corporate services,” said Managing Partner and Co-Founder Barry Kozyra.


“Mike has always rolled up his sleeves and dug into whatever tasks he faces,” said Co-Founder Judith Hartz. “He has shown himself to be committed to leadership in his community (Chairman of the West Caldwell Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, Club Officer/Secretary for The Rotary Club of the Caldwells, Chairman of the 2018 Rotary/Kiwanis Caldwell Street Fair, Member of Caldwell/West Caldwell’s Juvenile Conference Committee) and the Bar where he has chaired events (Trustee of the Essex County Bar Association and member of the New Jersey State Bar Association). He is counted on by both his clients and his colleagues.” Mr. Rankin has been named as a Rising Star in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions of the New Jersey Super Lawyers publication.


Mike is admitted to practice in the States of New Jersey and New York and the United States District Courts of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.


Mike attended Widener University School of Law (J.D. 2004) and Rowan University (B.A. 1998). He was an associate editor on the Widener Law Review and an academic support fellow (tutor) for first year law students.  He received the William J. and Ella C. Wolf Award in Real Property and Certificates of Achievement in Criminal Procedure and First Amendment Law.  He graduated from both law school and college with honors, magna cum laude. Following law school, Mr. Rankin served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Linda R. Feinberg, Assignment Judge, Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Mercer County (Ret.).
